FAST FOOD and YOUR LIVER

A study was done that involved a group of medical students who volunteered to eat two fast food meals a day to gain 5 to 15 percent of their body weight. They were also told to stop exercising. In a matter of a few short weeks they did indeed gain weight and inches.

Researchers also noted that their liver enzymes went up, even though the livers did not show signs of having built up fat. This elevated count went up very fast, after the first week of the fast food diet.

It was first thought that it was the saturated fat in the meat that caused this, but one of the researchers said it wasn't the meat, it was the sugar in the soda, and the starches and carbs in the fries and buns.

They were surprised to learn that the fats in the meat actually boosted the HDL or good cholesterol in the students bodies.

So we have yet another reason to watch our carb and sugar intake.
