Diet Tip 13

Using the food pyramid which is put out by the government, figure out the amount of servings from each food group that you should be consuming each day. For instance I allow myself six servings of bread or grains per day, so I write down in a small notebook  bread 111111. I then cross each out as I eat them. Be aware of what a serving consists of, it may not be as big as you think.

Diet Tip 12

Count your calories. Set a limit for the day. For a rough estimate I consider myself not at all active so I use what I would like to weigh and multiply that number by ten or 12. The answer is the total amount of calories I allow myself that day.

Diet Tip 11

Divide your plate in your mind into 3 sections. First in half then on one side in half again. Your protein should share one half with your carbs and the other side should host your vegetables or salad.

Diet Tip 10

After you have served yourself and before you dig in, put the rest of the food away in sealed containers in the fridge. This does a couple of things, first it's not easily accessible being in front of you, and secondly it will cool the hot food down, which hopefully makes it less tempting for second helpings.

Diet Tip 9

Throw away your forks and spoons and learn to eat with chopsticks. I like this tip because it really helps to slow your eating down and gives you a chance to taste your food.

Diet Tip 8

Eat from smaller plates. They hold less food but can fill the plate to make it look like more.
