TART CHERRIES AND OBESITY

A study that was done with rats and tart cherries in their diet shows such encouraging results that trials with humans are to begin this spring.

Rats that were on a high fat typical American diet were given tart cherry powder along with their other food. Even though these rats should have been getting fat, they were not. They were not found to be gaining fat around their middle areas either. In humans excess belly fat is a factor in heart diseases.

The tart cherries also helped with their triglycerides, cholesterol, and inflammation that is commonly seen in diabetes and heart disease.

There was an earlier study done with rats that were on lean diets and given the tart cherries and they did even better. They had low blood pressure and good glucose levels in their blood.

Let's hope that we humans do as well with the addition of tart cherries to our diets.

Hmm, very interesting! I'm taking the shorter route though, of just sticking to clean eating (whole foods), which gives me a low-fat diet without a supplement....helps me lose weight, too, which is a great benefit in addition to the added energy.

That's what works for me at least. :)
