This is news to me, what an eye opener! Starting in your twenties woman on average loose 7 pounds of muscle and gain 15 pounds of fat every decade. After the age of forty muscle loss doubles to 14 pounds. These are woman who don't exercise.
Also, and this really shocked me, each pound of muscle takes between 35 and 50 calories a day to maintain, while each pound of fat only takes 2 calories a day. Wow! That alone makes me want to start strength training right away.
